Cell-phone tower angers residents
Some residents firmly believe that living, working or going to school near a cell-phone tower might increase the risk of cancer or other health problems
A notice board is up at the reservoir in Observation Hill notifying the public that a Vodacom tower will soon be going up in the area.
This has given rise to all sorts of concerns by people living in Observation Hill. Some residents firmly believe that living, working or going to school near a cell-phone tower might increase the risk of cancer or other health problems.
Residents are complaining that they don’t want a cell-phone tower to be put up in Observation Hill and that it should be moved to another area. People believe the tower will give off harmful radiation which causes headaches and sickness. Others are concerned that the tower will be an eyesore on top of the hill and will resultantly lower the value of people’s properties.
“We don’t want the tower in our area. It’s too close our homes and we are frightened it will negatively impact on our health and the value of our homes. Why can’t they put it somewhere else that’s not close to residential homes?” fumed one Observation Hill resident.
If the public has any objections to the tower going up, they can contact the municipality before November 8. Any applications submitted after this date will be declared invalid.
