The Wembezi Stadium upgrade includes rehabilitation of the fencing and drainage system, building change rooms and an ablution block, construction and grassing of a practice field and incorporating a parking area

Dozens of people shrugged on jackets against the grey weather and made their way to a sod-turning ceremony at Wembezi Stadium on Sunday, October 27.

This function was to officially introduce to the community the upgrade that will be taking place at the popular sports venue.

Umtshezi Municipality councillors, management and staff as well as religious leaders attended the ceremony.

Local entertainment had the crowd clapping and cheering.

The Wembezi Stadium upgrade includes rehabilitation of the fencing and drainage system, building change rooms and an ablution block, construction and grassing of a practice field and incorporating a parking area.

This project costs R2.1 million and is expected to be complete by the end of March next year.

Employment opportunities will exist for 20 temporary and two permanent staff members.

“This project will boost the sense of belonging in the community because it will add to the existing community and sporting facilities. It will also benefit the community by improving the sporting activities for Wembezi and surrounding areas,” commented Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko.

The community welcomed the upgrade.
