Not so lucky jailed for 10 years

The doctor's report (J88 form) presented to the Court showed that there was not one part of her body which was not bruised - indicating the severity of the attack.

Lucky Shoba (24) spent his first night on Thursday behind bars after he pleaded guilty in the Dundee Regional Court and was jailed for 10 years following the death on Christmas Day last year of his girlfriend.

He was charged with culpable homicide after beating up Zanele Mweli (19) with a broom stick.  The doctor’s report (J88 form) presented to the Court showed that there was not one part of her body which was not bruised – indicating the severity of the attack.
Shoba told the Court that Zanele had gone to visit friends on Christmas Day and when she did not return some hours later he went looking for her.
He went to several of her friends’ homes but did not find her. Sometime later he went back to a friend’s house where he found Zanele.  The friends told Shoba that Zanele had been with another man.
They then went home where Shoba confronted Zanele about the allegation and she admitted to having slept with a man earlier in the day.  Furious, Shoba hit in the face and when she retaliated he beat her with a broom stick.
It was only the following day, when did not wake up, that Shoba realised she was dead.  An ambulance was called but the paramedics declared her dead.
Shoba then contacted the police and he was arrested.
