Volksrust High School welcomes Mr Mxolisi Ngwenya
Volkies welcome new teacher and sports mentor to join the school family.
Volksrust High School has welcomed Mr Mxolisi Alpheus Ngwenya to its staff and looks forward to having him become an integral part of the school community.
According to Marietjie Steyn of Volksrust High School, Ngwenya matriculated at Hoërskool Monument before completing a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Johannesburg, majoring in Psychology and Physical Education, with Afrikaans as a non-degree subject.
He brings a wealth of experience in and around education.
“Before joining Volksrust High School, he taught at Jeppe High School for Boys and previously at Curro Langebaan,” she said.
He also spent two and a half years working in the corporate sector before entering education.
“These experiences have shaped his approach to teaching, leadership and working with young people.”
Inspiring young people beyond the classroom
Steyn added that Ngwenya chose teaching because of his passion for helping young people reach their potential and creating opportunities for them both inside and outside the classroom.
“He firmly believes that education extends far beyond the classroom, which is why sport has always played such an important role in his life.”
A talented rugby player, Ngwenya represented the Lions during school-level sport weeks and later played rugby for the University of Johannesburg.
“Although he eventually decided that professional rugby was not his path, he found another way to remain connected to the game by helping young athletes develop their skills and providing them with opportunities to achieve their goals,” she said.
He is particularly passionate about the development of the boy child.
“In a co-educational environment, he believes that boys need intentional guidance, mentorship, discipline and opportunities to grow into confident, responsible young men, while ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to thrive,” she explained.
Ngwenya is a firm believer in hard work and consistency. One of the quotes he lives by is: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
