School murder: bail hearing adjourned to Monday
The State opposed bail, stating that the matter was a serious offence and that the state witnesses, who are also learners at the school, are afraid for their own safety.
Five Isizimele High learners appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court today but will have to wait for Monday to hear the outcome of their bail hearing.
Siphamandla Mazibuko (20), Thabani Langa (19) Sibongiseni Ndaba (20), Bhekamani Mazibuko (19) and a juvenile who can’t be named are charged with the October 28 murder of fellow student, Bongani Nkabinde.
After both parties argued their cases, Magistrate Mazibuko asked for a few days on order to prepare judgment.
Earlier in proceedings, investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Anthony Sipho Mgabhi led court into the details surrounding the murder of Bongani. He also opposed bail, stating that the matter was a serious offence and that the state witnesses, who are also learners at the school, are afraid for their own safety.
Defence lawyer, Mr Ziqubu argued that the accused would be moved to places outside of the district, should they be released on bail and so could not intrefere with the case.
The matter has been postponed till Monday, November 25 for a decision to grant bail or not.
