Bail denied

Five learners will remain behind bars, accused of the murder of a fellow pupil.

Five Isizimele High School learners who appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrates’ Court have been denied bail for their involvement in the murder of Bongani Nkabinde.

Siphamandla Mazibuko (20), Thabani Langa (19), Sibongiseni Ndaba (20), Bhekamani Mazibuko (19), and a juvenile who can’t be named, are charged with the murder of their fellow student.

The accused appeared in court last week and after both the defence and the prosecution presented their cases, Magistrate Buthelezi asked that the matter be postponed for a few days so that he could deliberate and prepare judgement.

When the trial resumed on November 25 he denied bail, stating that the matter was a serious offence. He also denied bail on the grounds that the investigation officer said tensions were high between the two communities.

Arrangements will now be made for the learners to write their final examinations.
The accused will remain behind bars until their next court appearance on January 9, 2014.
