Posing a health hazard
"It just comes and goes so often that we have gotten used to it"
RESIDENTS at the New Location in Bhekuzulu, just before one reaches the bridge crossing over to the Ghetto area have described the issue of a burst water pipe there as a health hazard.
Locals say that the issue has went on for months now and they have even gotten used to it.
“It just comes and goes so often that we have gotten used to it,” said a young woman who lives around the area.
Residents are concerned about how this water, which is said to usually have a very bad smell, may be a threat to the health of the little children that play with or in it.
“You often find children, especially those returning from local schools, playing with that water. This is a major concern to us community members as we have no idea where this water is coming from and what danger it poses to their health,” complained the residents.
According to these community members, the municipality was notified about this issue and someone was sent to see to the problem but a few days later, it is said to have “went back to normal.”
