The Amajuba District hosted the World Aids Day event at the Bensdorp Sports Grounds in Utrecht last Sunday.
Themed, Get wise, Get tested, Get circumcised, this event was organised by Operation Sukuma Sakhe in partnership with Amajuba District and other stakeholders.
According to District Mayor, Jabulile Khumalo, the district is focusing this year on disadvantaged communities affected by HIV/Aids .
Pastor Simphiwe Moyo emphasised the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle when one is HIV positive. He also cautioned attendees not be fooled by bogus healers who claimed to have cures for HIV.

Cllr Khumalo commended the Government on its initiative to combat the HIV in the country.
“As we speak, antiretrovirals have been compiled into one pill and Amajuba District was one of the first districts that received these pills. We as the Government are looking at having a HIV- free generation, but it disappoints us to see that there are people who are still engaging in unprotected sex.”
According to Cllr Khumalo, ‘sugar daddies’ are contributing in the increase of HIV/Aids and she urged men’s forums to address this matter.
“We urge you to be safe and use condoms whenever you are having sex. We also urge residents to get tested and to know their status so that they can prevent the spread of HIV,” concluded Mr Moyo.
