AT APPROXIMATELY midnight on the night of December 9, the Abaqulusi Municipality fell victim to an attempted robbery.
The night shift guards were locked in a store room on the premises, by a gang of thieves, who then proceeded to butcher the safe with angle grinders, after gaining access to the cash hall through a window.
According to a source at the Municipality, the thieves, who police suspect to be amateurs, escaped with nothing, as they were interrupted by the guards who were changing shifts early the following morning.
The would-be thieves fled the scene empty-handed.
