No answers for Post Office blunder
Residents were shocked and angered when they found their post scattered among the rubble of what used to be the Amajuba Park post boxes.
The Post Office remains mum about the events that took place early December last year. Siske Botha was one of the residents who was most affected by the sudden demolition of the post boxes in Amajuba Park. Her UNISA study materials went missing, along with Christmas gifts she had ordered online.
“The temporary post boxes are now being used and they have been closed up and everything. It seems to be going okay,’ said Ms Botha. “I eventually got everything that was missing.”
Residents were shocked and angered when they found their post scattered among the rubble of what used to be the Amajuba Park post boxes. No prior notification had been given to residents, and at the time the temporary boxes were unsafe and unusable.
Some residents now face the problem of having to track down their post, either at the Post Office in the CBD or at Pioneer Park, where registered post has been sent in the past. During heavy downpours last week, the area around the temporary boxes was reduced to a muddy mess, with the steps leading to the boxes virtually inaccessable in places.
“I have been approached by other residents whose post boxes are completely missing, and they have not received any post as yet,” said Susan Slabbert.
According to Ms Slabbert, there are many boxes missing. “There would need to be at least two more of those temporary things for all the numbers to be there.”
The temporary solution given by the Post Office seems to be falling short of residents’ expectations and safety. There is neither proper lighting, nor safe parking. Residents have to think twice before stopping there to collect their letters. The Post Office referred all media enquiries to their PR Management at head office.
No response has been received by the Advertiser, despite numerous requests to a senior PR manager.
