256 fined for road offences

Parking offences were the most common road rules that drivers disobeyed during the festive season.
This is according to Umtshezi Municipality’s Protection Services who issued a total of 256 fines for various parking and moving offences.
Most of these fines were issued to drivers who were double parked or exceeded the one-hour parking rule.
A total of 47 parking offence fines were issued.
The other charges included vehicle defects and drivers licence offences.
A total of 49 crashes were reported in which 16 people were seriously injured, 49 sustained minor injuries and two pedestrians were seriously injured.
The Protection Services also reports that six culpable homicide cases opened.
