Biker calls his near fatal crash a blessing in disguise
"When I got to the hospital, the doctors told me that I had a choice. They could either operate on Mlungisi and risk paralysis, or he could die from his injuries."

Mlungisi Maziya claims that the collision that nearly claimed his life four days before Christmas was actually a blessing in disguise.
He recalls the moment his motorcycle collided with the car that stopped in front of it on Drakensberg Drive with painful regret. In hindsight, however, he sees the incident as a sign from God to slow down and appreciate time with his family.
“I don’t know why the car in front of me stopped suddenly and I haven’t found out yet. I was wearing a half helmet and my face impacted with the rear windscreen before I fell.
“I was conscious after the collision and moved off the road to wait for help to arrive. I found out in hospital later that I had fractured my spine and suffered extensive facial injuries,” he said.
Mrs Maziya’s wife, Khanyi, had been decorating the family’s Christmas tree when she received a phone call about her husband.
“When I got to the hospital, the doctors told me that I had a choice. They could either operate on Mlungisi and risk paralysis, or he could die from his injuries. I was shocked by his facial injuries but at that moment I realised that my husband’s recovery was beyond us. It was in God’s hands, and the fact that he is now recovering well after just five days’ hospitalisation makes him a miracle,” said Mrs Maziya.
“My husband, who is a businessman works long hours every day and we never see him anymore. Needing time to recover forced him to slow down and gave us valuable time to bond as a family.
Mr Maziya added, “As heartbreaking as it was, the collision was actually a blessing in disguise. It’s made me realise how blessed I am and how happy I am with my life.”
Asked if he had any advice with regards to road safety, Mr Maziya encouraged motorists to be aware of bikers, cyclists, joggers and pedestrians.
“We are glad to hear that the children in the other vehicle are okay and relieved that nobody else was badly hurt,” he said.Mr and Mrs Maziya thank Dr Desai and the medical staff at Mediclinic Newcastle for their professionalism and kind concern.
