After a well-deserved festive season break, anglers from the fold of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association will be back at the water’s edge to stake their claims to the honours which are up for grabs. In the league competition, Breakwaters have the edge on their nearest rivals as they have fished consistently throughout the season.
The last league, held at Sandford on December 8, yielded some surprises as Docrat’s notched top spot with 33 points, followed by Breakwaters (31 points) and Freespool (26 points), while rest of the remaining clubs finished very closely behind each other.
The NFWAA Knock-Out Competition saw some of the much-fancied teams being knocked out by some unlikely opponents.
The clash between Breakwaters and Freespool was dubbed as the toughest draw in the competition, and the winner is likely to go all the way to the final, considering current form.
Breakwaters managed to beat Freespool, notching up 67 points to 52 points. Dannhauser Angling Club caused the major upset when they beat the much-fancied Challengers outfit to progress to the next round of the competition to take on Breakwaters.
Riverside were also upbeat about their victory over their arch rivals, Docrat’s. In the next round they take on Stillwaters Angling Club. Chelmsford Angling Club overcame Glencoe Angling Club to proceed to the semi-final. The next round of the competition will be the Knock-Out Competition at Richgate Park on January 26, where Breakwaters will fish against Dannhauser and Riverside takes on Stillwaters.
