Potholed street a thing of the past?

By mid-2014, the rehabilitation of Bridger Street should be underway.

While the project is still in its infancy stages, municipal sources hope to appoint a contractor by the end of February this year.

So said Thulani Ndlovu, manager of the Project Management Unit.

Mr Ndlovu explained the Bridger Street project was advertised in this newspaper last year and bids closed on November 27, following which the project will be considered by the Bid Evaluation Committee and Bid Adjudication Committee this month.

“Thereafter, the 14-day objection period and 14-day contractual requirement will follow.”

One businessman operating from Bridger Street said since the intersection of Kirkland Street and Hardwick Street was opened, it has become a significant thoroughfare for many residents.

He also expressed gratitude storm water drains might finally be cleared.
