THE general condition of Vryheid Cemetery has long been a thorn in the side of residents who have loved ones buried there.
One cannot ignore the disappointment that many people have felt regarding this matter, and for quite some time, many people have felt that this has, in fact been the case, and that their complaints were falling on deaf ears.
On January 23, it was quite clear, however, that this was no longer the case, as work is apparently underway cleaning up the cemetery. Finally, adequate measures have been set in motion to restore Vryheid Cemetery to an acceptable state. Workers were seen to be mowing the lawn, trimming shrubbery and pulling out weeds, despite the sweltering heat. When asked how long they felt it might take to complete this long overdue task, workers were divided in their opinions. Some said a few days, while others were convinced it would take weeks, or perhaps months.
Whatever the case may be, one can only hope that this maintenance will be carried out more regularly than has previously been the case.
