Ex-girlfriend stabbed over a ‘pregnancy’

Man sentenced for stabbing ex-girlfirend

Mandla Mlambo (28) was sentenced to eight years in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the stomach.

The Dundee Regional Court found him guilty as charged on January 16.

The incident took place in Glencoe on September 8, 2011, at the home of the complainant.

Lindiwe Khumalo (Mandla’s ex-girlfriend) explained to the court that on the day of the incident, Mandla came to her home, where he told her that he had heard that she was pregnant, which she said she denied. Mandla than ordered her to abort the child.

She said she then asked Mandla how he proposes they do it, when Mandla stabbed her twice in the stomach as well as underneath the left breast, before leaving her there.

Lindiwe said that she managed to phone her sister, who came rushing back home.

“My sister saw me lying on the ground and then phoned the ambulance, which took me to the Dundee hospital.” Later she was transferred to Madadeni Hospital, where she was treated until she fully recovered.

The court described Mandla as a ‘troublesome person’ who is dangerous to the community: his previous convictions are proof of that.

In 2001 he was accused of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; the case was postponed.

In 2006 he was fined R2 000 for assault and spent a year in prison.
