3 500 homes to be built
2 000 houses will be built in Cornfields, while 1 000 more is expected to be constructed at Weneen’s Owl and Elephant
More than 3 500 houses are expected to be built by Umtshezi Municipality in this current financial year 2014/15.
Mayor Bongani Dlamini introduced the Beneficiary Administration Housing Project Phase Two to the people of Papkuilsfontein, who will benefit with close to 680 houses.
A meeting took place at the Forderville Hall on Monday where Mr Dlamini said this project is dedicated to honour the contribution of the late Councillor Dawood Vahed, who initiated it.
2 000 houses will be built in Cornfields, while 1 000 more is expected to be constructed at Weneen’s Owl and Elephant.
The Mayor said residents should co-operate with those conducting door-to-door research, which will, among other things, verify addresses of applicants.
PR Councillor Edith Lite warned people to be honest when filling in the forms.
KwaZulu-Natal Member of Parliament Mbali Frazer, who previously lived in Wembezi, attended the meeting.
Also in attendance were the Speaker of Council Cesar Nunes, Ward Six Councillor Breen Ally Buckus and Councillor Sam Dladla. According to Mapula Madigoe from Potlaka Construction Company the project might commence in July this year.
