Classes were disrupted at Thalana High School on Monday, following a protest march against the collapsing of a school feeding scheme. Students were demanding food, claiming that they last got fed on January 15.
School Principal Dr Sikhakhane told the Courier that the problem was caused by the food service provider, Mr Mdlalose of Nquthu, who has service delivery problems.
Mr Sikhakhane said Mr Mdlalose has failed to pay his workers, which resulted in them ‘downing pots and pans’.
Dr Sikhakhane and his team left to discuss the matter with the Department of Education, and students went back to classes. The protest march was peaceful and there were no police present. The Courier will contact the service provider next week for comment.
