Umzinyathi Mayor joins isiKebhe anti-crime group

MEC Mchunu said IsiKebhe 'was not a vigilante group but a movement of people with genuine concerns and a desire to fight crime.'

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has applauded the move by uMzinyathi District Mayor, Councillor James Mthethwa, to join a voluntary community crime fighting organization, isiKebhe.
UMzinyathi District Municipality Mayor, Councilor Mthethwa, this week publicly joined isiKebhe, saying he had been impressed by the track-record of this organisation in curbing and fighting against stock-theft.

IsiKebhe is part of more than 22 voluntary community crime fighting organizations, that with the help of Community Safety and Liaison Department, has formed the KwaZulu-Natal Community Crime Prevention Association (KZNCCPA).

The KZN CCPA was formed as part of the Government’s efforts to Build a United Front Against Crime and mobilizing communities to be at the centre of crime fighting initiatives.

“IsiKebhe has a right to exist and it is part of KZNCCPA- made out of more than 22 voluntary crime prevention organizations- that have pledged to work with police and within the law to fight crime.

“These organisations have signed a memorandum to work with the Governent and within the law to add their muscle in the battle against crime, ”said MEC Mchunu.

MEC Mchunu said IsiKebhe ‘was not a vigilante group but a movement of people with genuine concerns and a desire to fight crime.’
