DHS learners and coaches made an early start on Saturday morning, travelling to Newcastle High to engage in a day of sport.

Netball: The U/15A team of Dundee High won their match and exhibited some brilliant play. The U/16A team also racked up a victory of 23 points to 4. The U/16B team made their counterparts proud by also beating Newcastle with a margin of 9-4.
The DHS second team also came out on top with a 24-5 victory over Newcastle. After suffering a harrowing defeat against Newcastle High School in the 2013 season, our netball first team did their school proud by only losing with one goal in the end. Final score was 12-11.
Rugby:
The U/15 boys kicked off proceedings with a runaway victory of 31-3. In die volgende wedstryd het die tweede span van Dundee met ‘n oorwinning van 19-7 geseëvier. Dundee High showed lots of promise with their young guns, when the U/14s ran out as victors with a scoreline of 32-0. Dundee High School’s first XV exhibited some stellar play, by beating Newcastle 14-12 after trailing at half-time 12-7. Public Speaking
The preliminary round of The Daily News Rotary Public Speaking competition was hosted by Sarel Cilliers on Thursday evening, March 6.
It was an enjoyable evening, as six teams presented their thoroughly-prepared speeches to the judges. Two teams had been selected to represent DHS at this round: Atiyyah Ameen, Wandile Khumalo and Sadiyah Malek spoke brilliantly of the serious problem of cyber-bullying, and Owethu Mtshali, Amanda and Thembeka Masuku delved into the serious issue of steroids in schools. Both teams made DHS very proud, but unfortunately neither team was chosen to attend the semi-finals in Newcastle.
ASA Athletics
A district athletics meeting was held on Saturday, March 1. Well done to the following athletes:
Girls U/15: Chanté Groenewald (long jump, shotput and 90m hurdles); Lethiwe Mathonsi (100m and 200m); and Nokuphila Sokhela (javelin and shotput). Girls U/17: Surina Gregory (long jump); and Soené Kolesky (javelin). Girls U/19: Nonjabulo Mpanza (high jump, long jump, 100m and 200m). Boys U/15: Emogéne van der Schyff (javelin). Boys U/17: Colin Scott (javelin).
The above athletes, as well as Thembaleth Mpanza, Silindile Zuma, Sinazo Masuku, Samu Twala, Sinethemba Vilikazi and Harry Masinga, will take part in the KZN High School Provincial Meeting in Durban on 13-14 March.
Gala
The DHS Gala was held some time ago but the trophies were only recently awarded. Well done to each and every swimmer that participated! David Jacobs was awarded the Old Boy’s Trophy for the 100m breaststroke and the GEMCO Trophy for the 100m freestyle. David Jacobs and Justin Dekker shared the James and Jody Mitchell Trophy for the fastest time in the 50m freestyle (boys). Vanesse Burns received the Reids Trophy for the 100m backstroke as well as the Snyman and Reusch Trophy for the Senior Victrix Ludorum. Jehan Ebrahim held the Alborough Trophy for the 100m freestyle and the Rheini Heunis Trophy for the fastest time in the 50m (girls).
Karl Thom was awarded the Biggarsberg Sport Association Trophy for the Junior Victor Ludorum and Charee Ollewagen took the Crookes Trophy for the Junior Victrix Ludorum. Fergus Donaldson was awarded the Malcolm Ronald Trophy for the Senior Victor Ludorum.
