Pupils excel at Hermannsburg Mini Olympiad

ON FRIDAY morning, March 7, Michaelis learners, together with teachers and parents, left for the annual Mini Olympiad in Hermannsburg.

With the gala being the first official event, the learners entered the freezing cold pool to test their skills against the other schools.

Our swimmers performed very well, despite the tough competition from DSD. Kirsten Hellberg was awarded the senior Victrix Ludorum and Michaelis was placed second overall. After a fun filled gala the athletes headed off to the soccer fields. With each pass and kick at goal the teams seemed to improve on their skills and by the end of the afternoon, despite the rain delays, they managed to win many of their matches. After all the exertion from the soccer the athletes were treated to a lovely dinner and enjoyed an evening of games presented by the grade 11’s. Although we had many rain threats on Friday we woke up to a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning. The softball games that were planned for the day, went off without a hitch.

The senior teams played well, thanks to their previous experience. The juniors, not having had much practise in the rain filled previous week, did us proud in the way they learned with each strike of the ball and the many home runs that they made.

This is truly a highlight for our learners each year and we would like to thank Hermannsburg for hosting us over the weekend and the parents for all their support.

Well done to all the boys and girls who participated. You can be proud of your achievements.
