Local schools promote a healthy environment

MONDI International packaging and paper group in partnership with the Vryheid Department of Education; WESSA School Programme; Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs; Department of Health (Environmental Health) are reaching out to schools in and around the AbaQulusi area to bring the Eco Schools project.

The aim of this project is to develop green schools and a young generation that is environmentally aware and active when it comes to matters regarding taking care of nature.

The project was started last year, and has 25 schools in Paulpietersburg and Vryheid that are participating. The schools are doing different environmental projects from recycling, compost making, food gardens, fish ponds, water harvesting etc.

Mondi assists these schools with their registration to Eco Schools, and purchasing material for the project.

On Friday, March 28, a workshop and an award ceremony was held for all the schools that participated at the Amakhwatha Primary School. The top achieving schools were Langeni Combined School who received the Eco School Gold Award and Landbou High School who received the Silver Award. 10 other schools that participated received Bronze Awards.
