Architecture talk and braai for history enthusiasts

The Ladysmith Historical Society held a talk about Brother Nivard Streicher

The Ladysmith Historical Society held a talk on Friday night at the Old Tollhouse about Brother Nivard Streicher, a Trappist Monk, and his monastery architecture in KwaZulu-Natal.

The talk was presented by Johan Matthee and looked at the different monasteries in the area. Streicher’s architecture is characterised by tall, Gothic towers and long, slit windows.

A braai was held after the talk, giving the society members a chance to socialise and reflect on what they had been told during the informative talk.

John Trollip, Jill Richmond, Ron Richmond, Liz Spiret and Johan Matthee were some of the members who were there.
