Hamilton Prep visited Juana Maria Old Age Home to participate in an Easter Service on Wednesday last week.
Hamilton music teacher Joyce Richmond put together the programme, which included instrumental items, seven songs of praise and worship to Jesus, and a poem telling the story of His death and resurrection.
It was the first time that the new Hamilton Prep Orchestra has performed outside the school for the Ladysmith community. The orchestra was started at Hamilton in January this year by Grade 5 class teacher Daniel Hutchinson and presently includes violins, cellos, recorders, melodica, percussion and piano. Local violinist Claire Tucker played a solo as a guest and the orchestra performed two pieces, namely ‘Ode to Joy’ by Ludwig van Beethoven and ‘Spring’ by Antonio Vivaldi (both arranged by Mr Hutchinson).
A wonderful time was had by all and Hamilton Prep looks forward to visiting Juana Maria with musical items again later in the year.
