The sounds of cheering, the looks of determination and the smell of sheer pride filled the air at this year’s Inter-house Olympics, hosted at Glencoe Primary (Violet Street).
Every year the three houses, namely Cheetah, Jaguar and Tiger Houses, fight tooth and nail to win the Olympics. This year was no different: competition was fierce with talented runners running as fast as cheetahs.
Along with the fierce competition the event was delightful, with the sound of vuvuzelas and the sight of proud parents cheering their little warriors on.
The festivities began with a colourful parade – bright colours and bold flags met the spectators’ eyes and delighted their hearts.
The Principal, Mr RC Mohommed, addressed the cheering crowd with a heartfelt speech, highlighting the pride he has in his learners and his gratitude to those who attended and supported the event.
Then the action kicked in – runners raced along the track and onlookers showed camaraderie with their brave friends. Time flew by quickly and soon the smell of samoosas filled the air, signalling a lunch break. After the delectable samoosa lunch the games began again. Each runner exceeded their abilities and tested their limits.
Sadly there could only be one winner, and this year’s winning house was Cheetah House, with an impressive 139 points.
They were followed by Jaguar House with 119 points, and Tiger House with 84 points. This news brought a flurry of cheers and a fair amount of booing too, but also brought an end to the Glencoe Primary Inter-house Olympics 2014.
