Two people have been arrested, one of which is a police officer, after two people were killed in Albert Street at the beginning of May.
Police are however, still seeking clues about the motive of the bloody incident and anyone who can help is asked to call Major Mkhize on 036 342 9512.
Speaking about the murders that took place on May 3 at about 1.30am, police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela said that when officers arrived in Albert Street they found a deceased male lying face down on the street.
He had several gunshot wounds and paramedics declared him deceased on scene.
“Another male who was alive had a gunshot wound to his left foot and was taken to Estcourt Hospital,” commented Captain Sokhela.
Police later arrested a suspect who was identified as a police officer from Ntabamhlophe.
“One service pistol was confiscated and the suspect appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on May 5. The motive for the killing is unknown and the docket is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID),” said Captain Sokhela.
Minutes after police responded to the shooting, they were alerted of a stabbing incident in Albert Street.
A man who sustained six stab wounds was found lying on the roadside, he was deceased.
A second man who was also stabbed and injured was removed to Estcourt Hospital.
“The motive for this killing is unknown but is suspected to be related to the shooting incident, as it seems as if there was conflict between two groups.
This case is being investigated by the Estcourt detectives and anyone with information is requested to contact Major Mkhize on 036 342 9512,” concluded the captain.
