Parkrunners turn pink to support breast cancer awareness
Parkrunners raised breast cancer awareness.
Parkrunners were ‘pretty in pink’ on Saturday as they dedicated the event to breast cancer awareness.
Event organiser Gwyneth Root said parkrun was all about promoting physical health, mental wellness and community support, pointing out that outdoor exercise offers a powerful combination of physical and psychological benefits that actively support breast cancer patients during prevention, treatment and remission (being a survivor).
According to the National Institute of Health, moving physical activity from an indoor gym to a natural, outdoor environment introduces the concept of ‘therapeutic landscapes’, which are clinically proven to be significantly more effective for healing and quality of life than traditional indoor settings.

Saturday’s event saw 100 parkrunners participating
Parkrunners were urged to wear something in pink to show their support for breast cancer survivors in the club.
Well done to Pierre Janse van Vuuren from the Newcastle Harriers Club on coming first, finishing his run in 23 minutes and 25 seconds.
A further congratulations to Jessica Blick, Tarn Hodson, Petrus Venter, Darius Jordaan, Piet Myburgh, Nabeelah Dockrat and Thulisa Hadebe who beat their personal bests.
Root urged all residents to join parkrun, which takes place every Saturday at 08:00 at Rooi Point Farm. The start is at the farm entrance across the road from Snips Bird Park. Snips offers free entry to the bird park for all parkrunners until 10:00 every Saturday.
“Come breathe the fresh air, clear out your mind, get to know other people and just have downright jolly good fun,” urged Root.
