Glencoe Primary tackles giants

The first team lost in a controversial match where two tries were disallowed.

During the recent winter sport encounters Glencoe Primary faced giants on the sports field, in the form of NRS and Paulpietersburg. Both these schools are known for very strong teams. 
Hockey: The hockey girls achieved the following results: Paulpietersburg: U/10 lost 0-3; second team drew 0-0. The first team drew 3-3 in a thrilling match – Yoliswa Mabizela scored twice and Siphokazi Mavuso scored one goal.


At the tournament at the Oval in Dundee, hosted by Uelzen, the results were: second team drew all matches; first team drew against Egerton 0-0, lost against Monument 0-1, and beat Uelzen 2-0 – Siphokazi Mavuso and Nikita Ramdayal were the goal-scorers. Against NRS: U/9 girls lost 0-2; U/10 girls drew 0-0; first team won 2-0.


Rugby: The determined first team boys went to Paulpietersburg to face the team that beat Glencoe. With excellent defence by Philasande Zulu and aggressive attacking from Mpilo Ndaba, Glencoe overcame their first team opponents 27-7. The second team drew 5-5, while the U/10 and U/11 teams narrowly lost their matches. Against NRS the U/10 team lost 5-15; U/11 lost 7-24; second team drew 7-7.

The first team lost in a controversial match where two tries were disallowed. “We stand with our heads held high with a result of 7-17, knowing that NRS is probably the best team in NKZN this year. Kwanele Hlongwane and Jan-Frederik van Zyl played their hearts out for the team. Well done to all the boys,” commented Glencoe Primary’s Hannes Lloyd.
Netball: The U/10 girls lost against Paulpiet 3-7; U/11 lost 4-6; second team won 9-4, with Luyanda Khumalo scoring eight of the nine goals. The first team narrowly lost 9-12.
KZN Netball: Five girls went through to Durban to participate in the KZN netball trials at Hoypark, namely Nonjabulo Ngobese, Celestine Jackson, Silindikuhle Makhubu, Snethemba Tembe and Nokwanda Mwali. They all tried their best but fell out in the last round of selections – well done to them.
