Keate Street pupils pray for kidnapped schoolgirls
Pupils marched from the school to the front of the court buildings, where they and court officials showed their solidarity and support by praying for the safe return of the Nigerian schoolgirls
Keate Street Primary School pupils and teachers, together with Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court officials, got together this morning (Friday) to pray for the girls who have been kidnapped in Nigeria.
It’s been almost seven weeks since the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls from a boarding school in Chibok, Nigeria. On April 14, a small army invaded a girls’ school in northern Nigeria. The military contingent is part of the Islamic guerrilla faction called Boko Haram, a name that translates to ‘western education is forbidden’. The soldiers kidnapped 276 female students and burned down the school.
This morning’s programme of events is part of the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ campaign that has seen the entire world coming together to demand that the government of Nigeria focus on liberating the abducted girls. Pupils marched from the school to the front of the court buildings, where they and court officials showed their solidarity and support by praying for the safe return of the Nigerian schoolgirls. The campaign continued at the school after the march.
