Runners laced up for the Comrades
30 Harriers members will take on the gruelling marathon on June 1.
With the Comrades Marathon 2014 just around the corner, locals are training hard for the task ahead.
On Sunday (June 1), 30 members of the Newcastle Harriers club will embark on a journey from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
The club expects brilliant running from all members, who have put in many long hours and hard kilometres in pursuit of a medal at the finish line, and hopes for some silver medals too.
“One should never forget, however, the value of any hard-fought Comrades medal – it’s worth its weight in gold.”
Among those setting off on Sunday will be veteran runners Andre Spies and Pradeep Singh, the 25th and 18th marathon respectively, as well as a number of experienced and novice athletes.
All the best to these locals and all other competitors – may you have a memorable run.
For spectators who are willing to drive down to support local runners in person, information on road closures and routes to follow can be found on the official Comrades Marathon webpage: www.comrades.com
