Officials braced for winter’s onslaught
Officials predict approximately one centimetre of snowfall along Van Reenen’s Pass between Harrismith and Ladysmith in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Emergency teams stationed along the N3 are prepared to handle the predicted snowfall.
According to a press release sent out by the N3 Toll Concession, the most recent South African Weather Services advisory predicts approximately one centimetre of snowfall along Van Reenen’s Pass between Harrismith and Ladysmith in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
“We appeal to motorists to avoid travelling at night. The South African Weather Service has warned that the forecasted snowfall could occur between 2am and 8am tomorrow morning. Therefore the possibility of ice formation on the road surface is a massive risk for any vehicle travelling through the area. Please be responsible, make informed decisions and be prepared for the worst if you are planning to travel this weekend,” commented Con Roux, commercial manager of N3TC.
All emergency services, law enforcement agencies, rescue- and relief services and disaster management teams in the area have been mobilised and placed on high alert. Furthermore, N3TC’s dedicated Route Services’ teams are on standby and ready to provide support where and when required.
N3TC and its partners in the emergency and law enforcement services will make every attempt to limit risks to lives and ensure general safety along the N3 Toll Route. If required, sections of the route may be closed to traffic should conditions become too dangerous and the area deemed inaccessible, in the interests of the safety of the emergency response teams and motorists.
