Hard time for their crimes

They were detained and a case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened

Two men have been sentenced to jail time for housebreaking and stealing another person’s belongings.

The men were arrested by police in the early hours of Sunday morning, January 5, for being in possession of suspected stolen property in the form of an old geyser, two wash basins and loose taps, as well as pipes and a door.

They were detained and a case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened. Later that same morning, a case of housebreaking was reported to police.

The two cases were linked and on May 9, the suspects were sentenced in the Ladysmith Regional Court. 32-year-old Mzwakhe Mabaso received six years’ imprisonment, while 33-year-old Dumisani Sipho Ndamande was handed down a sentence of four years in jail. Both were declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Constable SG Mabaso, a young detective at Ladysmith Detective Services who investigated the case, welcomed the conviction and sentence. He certainly hopes it will deter people from getting involved in this type of crime.
