Police believe that a syndicate that uses a remote control to gain entry to vehicles is operating in Victoria and Harding streets.
One person was arrested last Wednesday.
Captain JS Sokhela explained that a resident was shopping in Victoria Street when he noticed his vehicle pulling out from the parking lot.
“Fortunately a police vehicle from Public Order Policing was in the area, the complainant reported the matter and the chase started,” said the police spokesperson.
The vehicle was stopped at the bottom of Phillip Street and one suspect was arrested and appeared in court the next day.
“We want to warn the community to double check their vehicle doors after locking them using central locking.
The syndicate that is going around blocks people from locking their vehicle and after the driver has left, they help themselves to stealing everything in the vehicle,” added Captain Sokhela.
