Gazette celebrates Mandela Day at Provincial Hospital
One cup of delicious, hot, vegetable soup and one bread roll was handed to each grateful person in the waiting area

Ladysmith Gazette, Times of Ladysmith, Eyethu Uthukela and Get It Magazine staff did their bit for Mandela Day by going to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital early this morning (Friday) to hand out soup and bread rolls to patients.
The gesture brought smiles to the patients in the Casualty Department, most having arrived at the hospital long before sunrise to be attended to as soon as possible.
One cup of delicious, hot, vegetable soup and one bread roll was handed to each grateful person in the waiting area.
The team also took the time to chat and brighten the spirits of those not feeling too well.
One man burst into tears of joy, so grateful was he to receive some sustenance on a cold morning.
The sight of tears streaming down his cheeks brought home the gravity of the situation and just how much good was being done, all in the name of Tata Nelson Mandela and his dream.
The head of the K9 Unit Unit, Captain George Hlongwane also turned up to show his support, and distribute a few cups of soup and bread rolls in the process.
It was a lovely morning, full of friendly banter and smiles – 67 minutes (and a bit more) well spent indeed.
