Quirky Sherlene Gericke was born and raised in Estcourt.

The money raised at the craft markets go to children suffering with cancer.
She is not only talented but she’s an animal lover too, Sherlene has a cat “Splat” and a chicken.
Yes, a chicken called ” Nandos” who she says she has since he was a chick. She doesn’t know where he came from, but loved the chicken ever since she set eyes on him.
Sherlene describes the feeling as heart warming to see how well the two get along.
This Mandela Day Sherlene is going to serve cake and tea at Shepstone Place. She says she simply loves the elderly folk, for they always find a reason to wear a smile. Sherlene has found great happiness by using her talent to do good in the community.
She says she loves that by simply giving a pottery lesson she can keep children off the streets and from being lured to do wrong.
What she enjoys most about the pottery lessons are the smiles on the children’s faces once they have completed the arty pieces.
The 34-year-old started playing around with old candles at the age of 10 and at the time it was just a hobby.
She attended a candle course in Amanzimtoti, and 14 years later she has some amazing candles, some of which have been sent overseas.
With a proud smile she says that she has made candles for Rina Hugo son’s wedding and that for her was a memorable moment as a candle maker.
The motto this lively soul lives by is always be in high spirits, and don’t let anyone stop you from reaching for your dreams.
Sherlene’s entire family is talented, her dad makes knives and pottery, her mother makes homemade paper and her siblings are just as crafty as she is.

She says she wouldn’t be who she is today without the support of her family and friends.
