Miss Newcastle takes on Memel Road for CANSA

2013 Miss Newcastle, Amy Bushell, will set aside her high heels as she tackles the Blood Buddy Memel to Newcastle walk on August 9 for CANSA.

The compassionate beauty will take on the gruelling 50km challenge in an effort to raise much-needed funds for the non-profit organisation as part of her duties as Miss Newcastle and CANSA’s Newcastle ambassador.

Although Amy has received donations, she wants to encourage the community of Newcastle to support this phenomenal cause.

When asked why she decided on the Blood Buddy Walk as a platform to raise funds, she responded by saying: “I believe in having a healthy body and mind. The Memel Walk is an event that requires both.”

Amy has been incorporating more walking into her normal exercise routine in preparation for the event.

With charity events such as the SANBS Blood Drive and Khulisa Social Solutions Mandela Day initiative under her belt, Amy is committed to making a difference since she received the Miss Newcastle crown last year. She is also a regular supporter of the Newcastle Lions Club.

“There is plenty to do in Newcastle! People should come out and support our events. That way, there will have absolutely no reason to complain about not having anything to do.”

Amy hopes the community will cheer on Blood Buddy Memel walk participants this Saturday. “It would be wonderful if the spectators could sponsor a refreshment or two along the way,” she joked.
