Sailing with the sailfish
Not only did the group manage to land a whopping 50kg sailfish, but they also managed to grab this epic photo of it during the ‘fight’ as well.
Sailfish is one of the rarer fish caught off the coasts of certain parts of South Africa, grabbing a quick picture of it as it sails through the air, either on the line or off, is rarer still.
A group of deep-sea anglers from Newcastle seemed to have luck or skill on their side, during a trip to Sodwana Bay two weeks ago.
Not only did the group manage to land a whopping 50kg sailfish, but they also managed to grab this epic photo of it during the ‘fight’ as well.
The sailfish gets its name from the unique way in which it breaches the water, seemingly sailing through the air.
Majestic as this may be, the species is extremely powerful, and gave anglers Mohammed Mobeen, Shahid Seedat Mohammed Ameen and Faizel Valli a fight unlike any other.
It took the group an hour to catch the fish, and as they reminisced about the fight, the passionate flame of memories left behind by this fish will remain forever.
Accompanying the trio was a group of more than 20 other proud Newcastillians who also had a great time luring in the right fish, and finding a new story to tell about the ‘one that got away.’
Among some of the fish that were caught during the trip were yellow-fin tuna and wahoo.
