A CHILLY Saturday morning saw our young professionals competing in two friendly games with the local teams.

It was a cold and windy day, but boys will always be boys and they played hard, despite the weather, proving the point that they are future stars.

Vryheid Soccer Academy played against Real Skeletons FC. The u/13 boys played hard, especially in the windy conditions, with both teams trying to prove their worth against the opposition. At half time, the score was 1-0 in favour of Real Skeletons FC.

Vryheid Soccer Academy came back into the second half of the game more determined and more attacking.

Their strategy eventually paid off, with two goals being scored in the second half by Vryheid Soccer Academy and only one by Real Skeletons. The game ended in a 2 – 2 draw.

The second game, also u/13, saw Vryheid Soccer Academy take on Lucky 7 Stars FC, also from Vryheid, for the very first time. Both teams were hungry for the victory and played aggressively. Lucky 7 Stars broke the silence in the tenth minute of the first half and VSA equalised only a minute before half time, leaving the scores level at 1 – 1 at half time.

The first half always seems hard for the boys, as everyone is awaiting the referee’s final whistle. Lucky 7 Stars came back and scored two goals in the second half. Vryheid Soccer Academy scored a brilliant goal in the ninetieth minute and another in referee’s optional time, to level the scores to 3-3 at full time.

The game was decided in a penalty shoot out, which saw Lucky 7 Stars winning by 6 – 5.
