In pursuit of perfection
Last week, one of our own was recognised among the best journalists in South Africa after bringing home the prestigious Vodacom KZN Regional Online Journalist of the Year at an intimate ceremony in Durban.
For many journalists who strive for perfection, recognition for their persistence and dedication is often very low on their every-day lists.
Last week, one of our own was recognised among the best journalists in South Africa after bringing home the prestigious Vodacom KZN Regional Online Journalist of the Year at an intimate ceremony in Durban.
Kyle Cowan, who has been with the Newcastle Advertiser since November 2013, was chosen for his exceptional work on the search for a missing Newcastillian teenager, which led to the boy being reunited with his family only days after he was allegedly kidnapped.
This year, the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards (VJOY), marked 20 years of democracy in South Africa. According to organisers, “the awards sought to acknowledge journalists who have shown exceptional commitment to reporting excellence across media platforms, and are recognised as a premier catalyst in rewarding distinction in the ever-more crucial arena of dissemination of news and information.”
Regional winners will now attend the finals, which will be held at the end of October in Johannesburg.
“I feel very honoured and wasn’t expecting to win at all,” said Kyle. “I’m very satisfied that my hard work paid off. Without my editor and the team of journalists that I work with, this would never have been possible. Thank you!”
