Residents urged to join ‘Safe CBD’

Last week the project made its first arrest, together with Newcastle SAPS.

The Safe CBD Project business owners will meet today at 11am with members of the police, Crime Prevention Forum (CPF), Municipality and a local security company, which will ensure business owners safety against violent retaliation from criminals.

The project is aimed at cleaning up the Central Business District of crime.

The goal is to create an environment which is safe, secure, and easily accessible for the community to complete their shopping.

An invitation has been extended to all businesses from the community, residents included, to join in the meeting, and to have their voices heard.

Mayor, Afzul Rehman, has also pledged his support in aid of the project.

Last week, the project made its first arrest together with Newcastle SAPS, and this has been seen by many businesses as the kick-start in the right direction.

The purpose of the meeting today is to plot the way forward, and form the partnership between all those interested in the ideology of the project and the relevant spheres of justice.

Interested parties can join the meeting, which will be held at The Chicken Parlour on the Corner of Allen and Scott Street.

Refreshments will be made available to the attendees.
