Unique Anglo Boer War memorial in danger of collapsing
This is probably the only memorial that bears the names of both Boer and Brit.

Heritage Month:
This must certainly be the most unique Anglo Boer War memorial in the country. And it was erected in Dundee by public subscription on the grounds of the Wesleyan Church on McKenzie Street.
The small grave yard bears the names of several members of the British Army, notably the Royal Irish Fusiliers, who died in the Battle of Talana (October 1899), as well as the names of four Boer fighters, who also died in that battle. This is probably the only memorial that bears the names of both Boer and Brit.
Sadly, the graveyard is looking very forlorn at the moment as is the Wesleyan Church which is a National Monument. Strangely, the badge reflecting this is also missing from the church – although there is a mark where the badge was once placed.
The main memorial in the graveyard is crumbling due to a nest of ants that have burrowed under the sandstone. If nothing is done to repair the monument, it could soon crumble.
It is understood that Talana Museum curator Pam McFadden is to contact the War Graves Commission in order to possibly obtain funding to carry out the repairs.
