DURING the last 25 years of the apartheid era, people had to fight for their rights, and fight under racist segregation. I can salute Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Albert Luthuli and some leaders who died for this nation, and salute too the women of 1956 who fought for equality, and the youth of 1976. These are the legends of South Africa.
I suggest that there is a lot in South Africa that still needs to be done, because they say this is the year of democracy but the government is governing like the apartheid regime. For example, take a look at the Sharpville massacre which attracted the attention of Western countries, who blamed apartheid, and then take a look at the Marikana massacre, and they say this is democracy.
I heard on radio stations people talking about corruption. The government departments are doing nothing about it. They all wait for the end of the month and get paid, and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
How many communities around South Africa are protesting against the slow pace of development, and the government is hitting them with rubber bullets and arresting them? Why? Who else will fight for these poorer people around the world? I have worked for some construction companies where workers are not more vital than tools.
This is not democracy for all, it is democracy for the government and ruling party. South Africa is full of corruption, crime and weakness in law. If you have a question, call this number – 073 165 0024 – I am Nhlahla Wonder Buthelezi, a son of South Africa.
