Why the South African Maha Sabha issued the wrong date by mistake?

Confusion has arisen among Hindus as to when Diwali or Deepavali will be celebrated this year after the South African Maha Sabha issued the ‘North Indian’ date as the official date in error. This year should have been the ‘South Indian’ date, as agreed on more than a decade ago.

The Maha Sabha has since corrected the error and announced that the official day to celebrate Diwali in South Africa this year is Thursday, October 23.
