Bowling for a King
Three games in, and the winning team and only team to have scored maximum points was crowned.

The minutest touch is all that is needed in sending a bowl careening off course and putting your team behind.
The large attendance of bowlers at the annual Kings Day bowls was testament to the growing popularity of the sporting event.
Teams from all over Northern KwaZulu-Natal participated, and the skills exhibited by many of the teams were truly spectacular.
A total of 36 teams participated in the event, and the bowlers from around the district appreciated the excellent maintenance of the local turf.
Rain had been predicted for Saturday, but luckily the heavens stayed their showers, and the bowlers had a full day out on the greens.
Members of the Newcastle Bowling Club felt they were indebted to the Willemse family who set out an amazing spread for the bowlers and provided prizes for 24 of the participating teams.
Three games in, and the winning team and only team to have scored maximum points was crowned.
The team comprised of, Roger Jackets, Malcolm Webster and Bert Rodgers with 24+21 points.
They were followed by Henry Klofta’s Vryheid team on 22+10 points. Sid Price, Douglas Steele and Lindsay McArthur claimed third place with their 21+20 points.
For avid bowlers, a new set of lights has been introduced to the third green, due to demand increase for spots in the Business League. A further 12 teams can now be catered for.
The bowling community thanked Alan and Tillie Kirkland for supporting the FedAuto Summer League since the league’s inception, and also thanked the Newcastle Committee for ensuring the success of the league by helping and supporting the 34 contending teams.
