Husband and wife couple, Warrant Officer Bruce Simpson and his reservist wife, Corrie, have thanked Courier readers for their messages of support after both suffered shrapnel wounds following Sunday’s dramatic Pick ‘n Win Supermarket shoot-out.

The Simpsons, who out on patrol last Sunday morning, were first on the scene when a gang of at least 10 armed men held staff and customers at gunpoint shortly after 9am.

Another group of men were outside near the taxi rank acting as ‘back-up’ to the gang.

The Simpsons’ patrol van came under fire from an AK-47 rifle.  One bullet penetrated the windscreen, narrowly missing Bruce and his wife.

Both then ‘bailed’ from the van and shot at the men holed up in Pick ‘n Win.

Both suffered shrapnel wounds in the upper body.

“We just want to say thank you to all those who posted messages of support and concern on the Courier’s Facebook page and website.  We are overwhelmed by the response.” said Bruce. He confirmed that both he and Corrie are to undergo further treatment to have shrapnel removed from their bodies.

Police have arrested eleven men in connection with the robbery.  A security guard and a passer-by were also shot and wounded.
