SSS moves on to new pastures

HE HAS become a well-known face on the podium at numerous events in and around Vryheid, events that include a motivational speaker on their agendas. Sometimes he is in the uniform of a Brigadier in the SA Police Service; sometimes he’s neatly dressed in civilian clothing, and even then he seems to command a brigadier’s respect for his wisdom.

He is SSS Mhlungu, who joined the SAPS in the late 1980s, and who at the end of this week will be hanging up his brigadier’s uniform to concentrate on his other passion which is Life’s relationships. He describes himself as a “student of Life”, but admits that it’s a subject in which you can never graduate – there is always more to learn.

He admits that he will miss the SAPS, miss the challenges, miss the discipline, and says that the challenges that he faced within the SAPS “made me want to know more about Life.

“But the SAPS will be part of me, and I will be part of it forever. I am very grateful to the SAPS for having taken care of me – I am what I am because of the SAPS, which gave me opportunities to use my motivational skills.”

SSS, as he is known to all, has written seven motivational books, five of which have so far been published. He says they are all about Life, behaviours, love relationship management and motivation.

This is what he will be concentrating on now he has retired under the banner “Step up Your Life with SSS Motivations”. He will continue to be a preacher in the Methodist Church where his themes are not only spiritual but about inter-personal relationships.

Upon his retirement, SSS thanked the community of Vryheid at large for its support, love “and for caring for me”.
