Father, grandfather sentenced for rape of daughters

They were found guilty on more than 30 counts of rape and related charges.

Two Newcastle men have been sentenced by the Regional Magistrate’s Court in Newcastle for the repeated rape of two young girls.

The girls are the daughters of one of the men, while the other man is their grandfather. It is believed the girls were raped and assaulted repeatedly over a number of years.

On November 11, the father was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty on more than 30 counts of rape and related charges, while the grandfather was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for similar charges.

They will serve their respective sentences at Waterval Correctional Facility.

Shortly after being arrested, both men handed written confessions to the magistrate, allegedly detailing their crimes.
