KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu has appealed to the community of greater Ladysmith, in particular Ezakheni, to assist the police (that are working around the clock) to arrest and bring to justice the people responsible for the recent massacre in the area.

The massacre, dubbed the ‘October 11 Massacre’ by locals, sent shock waves through the community.

The call by the MEC comes in the wake of assembling a provincial task team that is currently working flat out to arrest those responsible for the massacre.

Already, warrants of arrests have been issued for Thando Mabaso and Sizwe Mabaso for the murders and attempted murders that occurred in the area.

Police are looking for Zitha Madondo, Gani Mvelase, Senzo Mvelase and Sfiso Gamede – who could possibly assist in their investigation.

The October 11 Massacre

On Saturday, October 11, a vehicle that was returning from a wedding was shot at on the Pieters road near Ezakheni. One female was killed and a further nine people were killed when a taxi that was seeking to avoid the shooting collided head-on with an oncoming truck. A few minutes later, at eRingini in Ezakheni, a total of five people were shot dead, while one person survived the attack.
On Friday (November 14), police made a major breakthrough when they arrested a key suspect in these murder incidents.

Today, MEC Mchunu made a passionate call to the people of Ezakheni to co-operate with the police and the government to ensure that those responsible face the full might of the law.

“We owe it to those innocent people and beloved relatives to ensure that we work with the police to assist them to arrest and bring to justice those responsible for this nefarious deed.
“This is the only way we could assist those that lost their loved ones to bring closure to their sufferings.
“Equally, the arrests and convictions of the killers could assist to send a clear message to criminals that the long arm of law and order will always catch up with them,” said Mchunu.
