NFP leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi suffered stroke
She was in the Intensive Care Unit of Mediclinic Newcastle for the duration of her care at the hospital.
National Freedom Party (NFP) leader and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mediclinic Newcastle for the duration of her care at the hospital.
Sources within the hospital confirmed she was admitted in a critical condition on Sunday, where she was stabilised before being transferred to eThekwini Hospital and Heart Centre on Monday afternoon.
The Witness has reported the leader allegedly suffered a stroke, and is currently unresponsive and under observation in the ICU at eThekwini Hospital.
Only close family are allowed to see her and top leaders within the NFP carry no knowledge of her condition.
Reports indicate Mrs kaMagwaza-Msibi has been battling to hold on to her position as leader of the NFP, and was recently travelling across KwaZulu-Natal in an attempt to thwart attempts to topple her.
According to The Citizen the fact that other top leaders in the party have yet to issue a statement regarding her health could be seen as proof of ongoing battles for leadership within the ranks of the NFP.
Nhanhla Khubisa, the party’s secretary general, referred all questions to her husband, Mandla Msibi. According to reports Mr Msibi spent the night at the hospital to be with his wife.
Mr Khubisa and NFP national chairperson Maliyakhe Shelembe are believed to be leading the faction that wants to eject Mrs kaMagwaza-Msibi from the party.
She left the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), where she held the position of national chairperson, and launched the NFP. The IFP has since subjected her to severe attacks in recent months, accusing her of conniving with the African National Congress to destroy the IFP.
