Could the end be in sight for a resident who has suffered at the hands at people dumping illegally? Hopefully a response from Umtshezi Municipality may curb the problem that Mr G Ramdeen from Seventh Avenue in Forderville has had to endure for many years.

Residents living in the neighbouring Eleventh Avenue have been discarding their domestic waste at the back of their homes, which happens to encroach on Mr Ramdeen’s property. His plight to have the illegal dumping stopped has been documented in the Estcourt News on two occasions and he recently approached the newspaper to report that the dumping is continuing unabated.

Mr Ramdeen wrote a letter to Umtshezi Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko to request assistance. When Mr Ramdeen submitted the letter, he had not positive response from the municipality. After his concerns were relayed to Ms Njoko’s office, she responded as follows: “A contravention notice has been issued to the culprit for the illegal dumping on municipal land in Eleventh Avenue. The said individual has been given seven days to have the site cleared. A follow-up inspection will be carried out after the notice period has expired.”
